Extraction

I cannot tell you how pleased I am with the service at Saddlebrook. I've been there twice for cleanings and they have always been clean, fast, and efficient. Today I took my son for his first dental visit, and they were so kind. From the front desk, the dental hygienist, to the dentist, service exceeds expectations. Thank you to everybody who works there!

There are times when it becomes essential to extract a tooth. Sometimes a baby tooth has distorted or long roots that contain it from falling out as it should, and the tooth must be removed to make way for the permanent tooth to erupt. At other times, a tooth may have so much decay that it puts the surrounding teeth and jaw at a high risk of decay, so your dentist may recommend tooth extraction and replacement. Infection, orthodontic correction, or issues with a wisdom tooth can also require tooth extraction.

When it is determined that a tooth needs to be extracted, your Gainesville dentist may extract it during a regular checkup or schedule another appointment for this procedure. The root of each tooth is wrapped within your jawbone in a “tooth socket,” and your tooth is held in that socket by a ligament. To extract a tooth, our dentist must expand the socket and isolate the tooth from the ligament keeping it in place. While this procedure is typically rapid, it is essential to share any concerns or preferences for sedation with your doctor.

Once a tooth has been extracted, neighboring teeth may move, causing issues with chewing or your jaw joint function. To avoid these difficulties, your dentist may recommend replacing the extracted tooth as soon as possible.
